Teeth Whitening in Glen Burnie

If time has left your teeth looking dull and stained and you are ready for a fresher-looking smile, teeth whitening at Glen Burnie Dental Group is a great place to start. We offer professional take-home whitening kits that fit your teeth and schedule, with our guidance and support along the way.

Is Teeth Whitening Right for My Smile?

Whitening works best on natural teeth with surface stains from coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, or age. Our dentists and hygienists check a few things before recommending whitening:

  • The type and depth of your staining
  • Your overall oral health
  • Any crowns, fillings, or other restorations
  • Results you have had with whitening in the past
  • What kind of results you're hoping for

Whitening isn't right for every type of discoloration. If you have underlying issues like gum disease or cavities, we need to address those first. Your dentist will let you know if whitening is a good fit for you.

The Benefits of Professional vs. OTC Whitening

Store-bought whitening kits can work for some people, but professional take-home whitening offers a few real advantages:
Custom Kit, Not One-Size-Fits-All
Your whitening kit starts with an in-office scan that results in precise measurements of your teeth, instead of a generic tray from a store shelf that may not fit as well.
Guidance Before You Start
Your dentist checks your oral health, existing dental work, and sensitivity before you begin so you know what to expect instead of guessing on your own.
Whitening on Your Schedule
You still have the convenience of whitening at home on your schedule, with professional-strength whitening gel and clear instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whitening results typically last several months to a couple of years, depending on your habits and how well you care for your teeth afterward. Staining gradually returns over time for most patients, since the same things that caused it before can cause it again.

What Affects Teeth Whitening Results

Some of the factors that can impact how long whitening results last include:

  • Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco use
  • Your daily oral hygiene habits
  • Regular preventive care and dental cleanings
  • How your teeth naturally respond to staining

Keeping Your Smile Bright

Brushing and flossing regularly helps lift stains and prevents them from settling in. Routine teeth cleanings with your hygienist remove deeper surface stains, along with plaque that can dull your smile. If you choose our Zoom! take-home whitening system, you can use your custom tray and leftover gel for touch-ups at home.

Keep in mind that any crowns, fillings, veneers, or bonding won't whiten along with your natural teeth, so shade differences can become more noticeable over time if only your natural teeth are treated.

Professional Take-Home Whitening with Zoom!

Our whitening process starts in our office. We always recommend a thorough teeth cleaning to remove plaque and tartar, so you start with a clean slate.

Next, we take a digital scan of your teeth to customize your whitening trays to fit your mouth. Then we send the details to Zoom, which designs your kit specifically for your needs, from the custom-crafted trays to the strength of the whitening gel.

When your trays are ready, Zoom sends the kit directly to you. You complete the whitening at home, on your own schedule, following your dentist’s instructions. If you have questions during the process, our dentists are available to help.

What About Tooth Sensitivity with Whitening?

Some patients notice temporary sensitivity during or after whitening. This is common and usually fades. Tell your dentist about any existing sensitivity or past whitening experiences before you start, as it may affect your treatment plan.

Following your recommended schedule, rather than whitening more often than instructed, also helps keep sensitivity manageable. Your dentist can adjust your plan if sensitivity becomes a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does teeth whitening cost?

Our team will review estimated costs with you before you begin, so you know what to expect. If you are interested in financing, we accept CareCredit, Sunbit, and Cherry to help make treatment more manageable.

Will teeth whitening work on crowns or fillings?

No. Whitening only changes the color of natural tooth enamel. Your dentist can discuss options with you if you want your restorations to match your whitened teeth.

How white can professional whitening make my teeth?

It depends on your starting shade and the type of staining you have. Your dentist can give you a realistic idea of what to expect during your evaluation.
